Meet WeOwnTV youth filmmaker Salaymatu Sankoh. Salaymatu wants an education, but as a young woman in Sierra Leone she is faced with many obstacles. Her parents encourage her to leave school, wanting her to marry at a young age instead. Fleeing an arranged marriage, Salymatu takes “refuge” on the streets. She now lives with her boyfriend and two children. Salymatu dreams of providing more opportunities for her own children than she was given.

I really applaud your drive to follow what you believe to be better choices - even though they provide huge challenges. Breaking from the ways our parents have practiced for us is always such an uphill battle - we can only take refuge in the satisfaction that we are propelling our culture forward and helping everyone learn to be smarter and break from just the "auto-pilot" way of not really thinking and just doing. I hope WeOwnTV offers a venue that can help you get your message out there for more people like yourself to hear.
vic- thank you for your encouragement.
