WeOwnTV Program Launch at the Bay Area Video Coalition
April 2009
Hello Bay Area Friends,
WeOwnTV and the Bay Area Video Coalition BAVC would like to invite you to a launch party for www.weowntv.org
- a new project from the filmmakers and one of the stars of "Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars!" WeOwnTV is a collaborative media project that promotes self-expression and cultural pride through documentary and narrative filmmaking workshops based in Sierra Leone.
During a January, 2009 scouting trip the WeOwnTV Crew interviewed more than fifty extraordinary candidates to be both project participants and WeOwnTV staff. We have selected a diverse group of young adults to take part in our first workshop in August 2009. From budding filmmakers and star students to ex-combatant street kids and former child prostitutes, the participants range in age and background - but they share a common desire to develop their voice and talents to address the wounds of their individual past while building a foundation for their shared future. Along with a great crew of Sierra Leonean mentors the WeOwnTV program will provide the technical support, encouragement and training that will allow these young adults to creatively produce their own media and share their experiences and ideas with the world.
We need your help in getting this new project off the ground! Please join us at the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) in San Francisco on May 14, 2009 to learn more about WeOwnTV's Sierra Leone project and help the ongoing effort for social change and positive development in this long suffering country.
