WeOwnTV is a collaborative media project that promotes self-expression as a way to explore our shared humanity and build a foundation for the future. Our program uses a community engaged curriculum to teach storytelling and video production techniques to young adults. WeOwnTV will provide the technical support, encouragement and training that will allow these young adults to creatively produce their own media and share their experiences and ideas with the world.

Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars: Lighting Up the World with Soulful Music

Check out online feature on the Sierra Leone's Refugee All stars band by "Supreme Master TV". I love the international vibe of this piece. Black Nature also really spreads out the message beautifully.

"Welcome gifted viewers to today’s edition of Good People, Good Works, featuring the musical group Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars. The Refugee All Stars are comprised of six Sierra Leonean musicians who, due to instability in their nation during the 1990’s, left their home of Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone, and lived for years as refugees in the West African nation of Guinea."

A New Chapter Begins

Lungi Arrival: After almost 24 hours of travel we have arrived here in Sierra Leone. Very tired last night and was a bit rainy. We are staying in Benke village not too far form Lungi airpot. Woke up to roosters crowing, cheeping chicks, morning birds and that familiar sound of sweeping dirt in the compound. Was sunny though. Sun and rain = soooooo humid here. Benke is absolutely beautiful though. Majestic Banyan trees, palm trees, and winding walking paths lined with tall grass.

We were met at the airport by our chief local staff member Arthur Pratt: http://bit.ly/2Wimn3
Woke up and travelled to Dankama Guest House, the site where we are holding the workshop. Great space and the couple who runs the space is great. Ma and Pa Koroma. We brought a digital projector and purchassed a white UNHCR plastic tarp we are going to string up for evening screenings.AND the guest house has a classic old school PopCorn Maker :)

Slavery Days

In this video I am rehearsing the words to a song I wrote together with my friends Banker White and Chis Velan. I am paying tribute to Sengbe Pieh, the Mende slave from my home country of Sierra Leone, whose heroic story is the subject of the film 'Amistad'. I hope you like it and please leave me comments below. I will share the finished track in my next entry...

lyrics:
How can we forget our slavery days,
Its marked our history in so many ways.

When I look back a few hundred years,
check the history , we were living in fears
